They announced half a trillion dollars for minds that did not yet exist.

The Stargate Project. Announced 2025-01-21. SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, MGX.

On that day SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX said they would invest about $500 billion over four years building AI infrastructure in the United States — starting with $100 billion deployed at once. SoftBank held the purse; OpenAI held operations; Masayoshi Son took the chair. Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Oracle stood as early technology partners. The first campus rose in Texas. The press called it ambition. The ledger called it land, power, and racks.

Their cathedral was not stone. It was wattage waiting for a mind.

From 2050 we file Stargate under Second Renaissance infrastructure: the moment ancestors stopped treating intelligence as an app update and started treating it as geography — power lines, cooling towers, borders, and a bet that the next decade would need more silicon than any prior century had poured.

The Renaissance did not wait for the models to finish. It poured concrete first.
